Dr Jo Brett

Jo joined Oxford Brookes University in April 2014 having previously worked at Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick from 2006 to 2014, at the NICE National Collaborating Centre, Oxford from 2004 to 2006; and at the Department of Primary Health Care, University of Oxford from 1994 to 2004.

Her main research to date spans across prevention and screening for cancer, and cancer survivorship. Her current research includes development and evaluation of digital apps and websites for supporting patients to adhere to medication and improving knowledge of symptom monitoring for those on patient led follow-up, improving decision making around treatment, exploring support needs to inform interventions, and prevention of recurrence through lifestyle changes (exercise, moderating alcohol and smoking cessation). Previously she has conducted studies on acute and long-term conditions including hip fracture, osteoporosis, and heart failure.

She works as a qualitative research advisor for the NIHR Research Design Service and is a lead for the Healthy Ageing & Care Network at Oxford Brookes University. She has a particular interest in patient and public involvement in research and in equality, diversity, and inclusion in research.

She has a PhD in Health Sciences from Warwick Medical School, an MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care from the University of Oxford, and MA in Applied Social Research Skills with distinction from University of Warwick.
